1. La règle des 45 cm
Dans une pièce fermée traditionnelle (et non un espace ouvert), il est généralement conseillé de laisser 45 cm de sol nu apparent autour du tapis.

Pour un tapis 8x10 : Idéal pour une pièce d'environ 3,35 m x 3,95 m.
2. La règle des 2/3 pour le mobilier
Cette règle est essentielle pour l'harmonie de votre espace. Le tapis doit couvrir au moins les 2/3 de la surface au sol occupée par vos meubles. Si votre canapé et vos fauteuils occupent une surface de 3 mètres de large, un tapis de 1,80 mètre paraîtra trop petit. Il ne permettra pas d'harmoniser l'ensemble.
3. Le principe des pieds avant
Il existe trois façons de disposer des meubles sur un tapis :

Tous les pieds sur le tapis : Nécessite un très grand tapis (généralement 2,70 m x 3,60 m ou plus).

Pieds avant sur le tapis : Le compromis le plus courant et le plus pratique. Le tapis se glisse sous le canapé sur environ un tiers de sa profondeur.

Sans pieds sur le tapis : Généralement évité dans les intérieurs haut de gamme, car cela crée un effet d'îlot et donne une impression de déconnexion.
Un tapis de 2,40 m x 3 m permet généralement de placer les pieds avant sur le tapis pour un canapé et des fauteuils standards. Un tapis de 1,80 m x 2,70 m impose souvent une disposition sans pieds, sauf si la pièce est très petite.

Structurer l'espace
Un tapis 244 x 305 cm (8 pieds) est suffisamment large pour dépasser les extrémités d'un canapé standard de 213 cm (7 pieds) (213 cm ou 84 pouces). C'est essentiel. Si votre tapis s'arrête avant votre canapé, la pièce paraîtra déséquilibrée. Les 15 cm supplémentaires de chaque côté, offerts par une largeur de 244 cm, créent un cadre visuel qui affirme que cet espace est bien pensé.
Le dilemme du canapé d'angle

Bien que souvent utilisée en menuiserie pour les angles droits, la règle 3-4-5 s'adapte, en design, aux proportions d'agencement et de couleurs, à l'instar de la règle 60-30-10.
L'ajout d'un tapis crée un bloc important de couleur ou de texture (le « 60 » ou le « 30 » de votre ratio).

Avec un tapis de 2,40 m x 3 m : Le tapis devient l'élément dominant (60 %). Il est essentiel que le calcul de la longueur des rideaux et les couleurs des murs s'harmonisent avec cette grande surface.

Avec un tapis de 1,80 m x 2,70 m : Le revêtement de sol reste l'élément principal. Le tapis devient l'élément secondaire (30 %).
Si votre sol est abîmé ou peu esthétique, un tapis de 2,40 m x 3 m masquera les imperfections. Si votre parquet est en chêne massif à chevrons, un tapis de 1,80 m x 2,70 m laissera le bois s'exprimer pleinement.

Scénario B : Deux causeuses face à face

Éviter l'erreur du « timbre-poste »
Le regret le plus fréquent que j'entends est : « J'aurais dû acheter le plus grand. »
On craint souvent qu'un grand tapis n'encombre la pièce. En réalité, un grand tapis agrandit visuellement l'espace. Il repousse les limites du regard vers l'extérieur, jusqu'aux bords du tapis. Un petit tapis, au contraire, attire le regard vers l'intérieur, donnant une impression d'étroitesse et de désordre.
Si vous hésitez et que les dimensions de votre pièce le permettent (n'oubliez pas la règle des 45 cm), optez toujours pour la taille supérieure. Il vaut mieux un tapis qui se glisse bien sous le canapé qu'un tapis qui flotte tristement devant, tel un tapis de bain.
Le choix entre un tapis 180 x 270 cm et un tapis 240 x 300 cm relève rarement du goût, mais plutôt du calcul. Pour la plupart des salons standards avec un canapé deux places, le tapis 240 x 300 cm est le choix idéal pour créer un espace harmonieux et bien délimité. Le tapis 180 x 270 cm convient aux petits appartements citadins ou aux coins lecture, mais sa largeur est insuffisante pour mettre en valeur un mobilier moderne.
Avant d'acheter, mesurez votre pièce, marquez les dimensions au sol avec du ruban de masquage et utilisez notre visualiseur de tapis pour visualiser l'encombrement. L'aménagement de l'espace est une question d'efficacité et de fluidité : ne laissez pas un tapis trop petit perturber votre décoration.
